I don't ordinarily blog about food this often...but it's winter....and I live in Iowa...and I'm cold....and hungry. So there. Today is your lucky day though friends because I have discovered what may be one of my FAVE crockpot concoctions ever. Crockpot Mongolian Beef....who woulda thunk it? Not I.
Go forth...make Crockpot Mongolian Beef. You can thank me later...oh and I like tulips and chocolates.
1 1/2 lb. ball tip steak or flank steak (from Wallace Farms if you're nearby...Nick rocks)
3 cloves garlic, minced
4 sliced green onions
1 tsp. dried onion
1/2 c. soy sauce
1/4 c. white wine
1/4 c. cooking sherry
1/2 tablespoon white wine vinegar
1 tsp. sesame oil
1 tsp. molasses
1 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. red chili flakes
1/2 tablespoon peanut butter
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 c. cornstarch
1) Slice meat thin, put in baggie with cornstarch.
2) Put all liquid and dry spices into crockpot, add PB, mix well.
3) Add garlic and 3 green onions. Put meat on top, toss gingerly.
4) Cover and cook on low 4-6 hours (mine took around 4).
And you blogged about it already?? Look at you! It looks really freakin tasty. Adding it to my list...

Making this now for tomorrow. Can't wait! I halved the recipe and used about a pound of raw shrimp in place of the steak. I also threw in a couple shrimp shells for added flavor. Yum!

ReplyDeleteFound this on pinterest, and while it's not in my mouth yet, my house smells AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteOne quick critique though: For those of us who cook quickly... I almost missed the 1/2 T vs. 1/2 t. Might be easier for some if it said 1.5 t (instead of 1/2 T)... just a thought :)
thanks for the great recipe!

ReplyDeleteMade this tonight. Way sky-high two thumbs up!! Amazing goodness. Thanks for this recipe. It's a keeper. :-)
ReplyDeleteJust curious why you toss the meat in cornstarch first? I made this last night and the sauce turned out as thick as paste, is that right?
ReplyDeleteJust curious...I was looking at your kitchen remodel and noticed a sign from Thor, IA...are you from that area? I grew up in Goldfield which is very near there. Small world!

ReplyDeleteI truly hate most crockpot recipes. I think it's the texture the meat gets. This one was so good. Very flavorful. Thanks for the awesome recipe.

ReplyDeleteThis was WAY too salty.
ReplyDeleteThis was WAY too salty.
ReplyDeleteA lot of recipes with soy sauce are too salty for me too and I use either low sodium soy sauce, coconut Aminos or I'll substitute water for half the soy sauce. Putting this in the crock pot right now!
DeleteUse low sodium soy sauce for sure - very salty.
