The First Step

Houston, we have lift off. Have you ever had one of those moments in your life when you were in JUST the right place at JUST the right time?

This was my right place. The home of the parents of my SUPER SWEET soon to be sister in law (or how does that work? she's marrying my husband's brother...oh whatever, I'm calling her my sister in law ;-) Her parents, Rochelle and Brian, were hosting a little going away/engagement party for Allison and Jerry and we were invited. I wish I'd taken a photo of their house....it is GORGEOUS! Old and beautiful. Back to the Houston/right place/right time story. We sat in Rochelle's beautiful kitchen discussing the work they had done on the house and how pretty the kitchen was.

This was the conversation:
Jen: My kitchen really needs a redo....I have ugly metal cabinets and the whole thing is just hideous, I'm going to have to get rid of all of it.

Rochelle: My cabinets are metal.

Jen: THEY ARE? Well mine have this super ugly orange peel finish.

Rochelle: Mine do too.

Jen: THEY DO? (Now feeling the cabinet door)

Rochelle: I just painted mine!

Jen: YOU DID? Wait a minute....these are MY EXACT CABINETS!!!

Rochelle: Well you could paint yours too!

Well that's about how the conversation went anyway...I don't have a photographic memory folks. But you get the gist of it.

To which Rochelle ran off and brought back the paint she had used on her cabinets. I'm totally off to Sherman Williams as soon as I can decide on a color. Oh my goodness the possibilities are washing over me like a tidal wave.

AND NOW HERE'S THE HOUSTON PART.......................

My husband has agreed. And I have had an epiphany about my kitchen.....I don't need to spend a million dollars to have a beautiful kitchen. Rochelle had also put up beadboard walls (like I want)....and I'm thinking I could just slap some of that on the ceiling too! I have some beautiful inspiration photos I'm sharing later this week.....this project may actually happen soon my friends!!!!

Thank you Rochelle and Brian for hosting a wonderful party and for inspiring my new beautiful (cheap) kitchen remodel! :-)

  2. Paint works miracles! Have fun!

And I had to laugh at the whole brother-in-law thing...I struggle with that too. If I refer to my husband's brothers-in-law as MY brothers-in-law, people think I have sisters. But "my husband's sister's husband" is so wordy! What a conundrum.

  3. Yippeeeee!

I'm so happy for you. I just love it when inspiration strikes and you realize it's totally do-able. (Helps even more when hubby is on board)

    Looking forward to following along.

p.s. maybe you could do me a favor and record all hubby astonished comments once he sees your fantasic painting skills. This may help me convience my hubby that painting the cabniets is a good idea. (I had him saying yes at one point but had to put it off - - now were back to square one - grrrrrr)

  4. SHUT UP! I seriously squealed when I read this. I swear to you, things totally happen for a reason.

(And, PS. We may have bought a house today. So we also have a kitchen in our future.;) Let me know when you are painting, if you want help. As long as I'm free and it's before our closing. I'd love to come out.)
