The Crazy Squash Patch

The official squash photographer
The squash patch to end all squash patches. That is what we have on our hands. We've attempted to grow them before....with maybe two or three actually surviving til harvest. Then came this year. It just so happens that with the winter from h-e-double hockey sticks, we couldn't plod through the snow all the way to the back compost bin.....so we just dumped it in a little spot in the garden. Spring came, we planted our squash seeds....then the squash went crazy. My brilliant six year old reminded me that this spot was the very same spot we dumped our compost....so it DOES work!

This is one of the giants that keeps growing...and growing....and growing.

And yes, that is a TWELVE inch ruler.

  1. Holy cow, that thing is huge! I'm hoping to have a garden next year. I don't think we'll be able to grow something that big, tho!

  2. Wow, that's amazing! Some dummy (ahem, me) planted our squash in the middle of everything and now they're taking over everything! Love that you used the trellis. Was it on purpose?

  3. Love it! Love squash. What type of squash is it and what will you do with it? We're enroute home from southern illinois and I know our garden is going to be going NUTS.

  4. I am in awe of your gardening skills! Those things are HUGE! I once heard of a family that carved their huge zucchini and squash into boats to race, that made me laugh! :)

  5. And, PS - I totally wanna make my squash look like that next year? Did you must make a walkway under it? That would be great for my cucumbers, too.

I kinda love comments, who doesn't? Nice comments. Only. I'm picky that way. ;-)
